BIA: For Certain

With music, I always enjoy discovering new artists. Female hip-hop has been making waves in the last few years. For the last ten years, one can associate the topic with one name, Nicki Minaj. As time passed, she has paved the way for more female artists to enter the realm of rap. In 2021, one female rap that I’m sure will make a splash on the music scene is American recording artist, BIA.

BIA has been in the spotlight for quite some time. She first became known on the reality TV show, Sisterhood of Hip-Hop. She has released a mixtape and EP all before opening up for Pusha T and Ariana Grande. In 2019, BIA was brought into the forefront when she appeared on Russ’ single, Best On Earth. The song was a hit single on Billboard Hot 100 after Rihanna shared the track on her social media platforms. Since then, she has released a bunch of freebies up until the release of her latest EP, FOR CERTAIN.

A major standout for BIA is her rapping skills as she brings grit and rawness to her verses. This is shown from Track 1 as she brings along none other than Lil’ Jon for the intro track, BIA BIA sampling his song of the same name. Her first single, COVER GIRL spawned the social media challenge on IG and Twitter. Lil’ Durk (SAME HANDS), Doe Boy and 42 Dugg (AUTOMATIC) also accompany the EP but after listening to the seven track effort, BIA proves that she can hold her own.

If FOR CERTAIN is any indicator of what’s to come from BIA, then I’m excited. The EP shows different flows and vibes from the rapper and I’m interested to see her collab with other artists in the future. Hopefully, we’ll get to see a debut studio album from BIA in 2021. With a Rihanna co-sign, BIA is ready to take her career to the next level.
