ROSALIA: Motomami

At the age of 29, Spanish singer-songwriter, ROSALIA has become an international superstar over the last five years. I was first introduced to her music with her second album, El Mal Querer and collaborations with other Latin artists before her popularity garnered her to expand to other genres including Pop, & Hip-Hop. This March, she returns with her new album Motami that has received critical acclaim and the highest score on Metacritic of 2022.

From the project’s release, ROSALIA stated that the album will incorporate various sounds and instrumentations escaping from her normal reggaeton sounds familiar to listeners. With the new sounds she partnered with new producers and artists for her new album. Led by The Weeknd-assisted single, ‘La Fama’, Motomami explores Bachata, Electronic, Hip-Hop & R&B sounds throughout to discuss the topics of fame, relationships, sex and more. One of the highlights of the album come from Pharrell Williams & The Neptunes producing three tracks for the album including the standouts, ‘Hentai’, ‘Motmami’ & ‘La Combi Versace’.

With being an artist, it is the norm for musicians to take risks in order to further the longevity of their career. For ROSALIA, she capitalizes on this decision effortlessly and creates a masterpiece for a body of work with Motomami. You can listen to the new album on all music streaming services.
